Timebanking

What is timebanking?

From supporting a fellow neighbour to sharing talents in your community, timebanking is a great way to exchange skills and support, where everyone is valued and where everyone's time is equal. 1 hour = 1 credit.

Through the timebank community, you either make a request or offer. A request is for anything you would like help or support with. An offer is where you offer your time and skills.

To participate in our timebank, you must register on the Te Mātāwai Community Hub  and then join as a timebank member.

How it works

Thomas wants some help moving some furniture into his new apartment.  He has already joined the timebank community.  He posts a request for help with the move, on the Te Mātāwai Community Hub .

Manu is a timebank member and sees the request.  He has some free time and is keen to help out.  He is fit and knows how to move stuff.   He responds to the request via the Te Mātāwai Community Hub and Thomas and Manu agree on a time.

On the day, Thomas meets up with Manu and over 2 hours they shift the furniture and get to know each other.

Thomas is really happy and he sends 2 credits to Manu, via the Te Mātawai Community Hub, for the 2 hours for timebanking.

Timebank credits

Offer an hour of your time; earn one time credit.

One hour equals one credit – regardless of what you do. In the timebank, everyone is valued equally. There is no money exchanged, only time.

Timebank members choose what they would like to offer or what help or skillset they would like to request. It’s that simple. You can also donate your credits to other members.
